Mindset Monday - Mission Misogi
“Doing the difficult things you have never done awakens the talents you never knew you had.” – Robin Sharma
Each year during our branch goal planning day we take a 30 minute block to go through an exercise to select our one big thing for the year. One challenge or activity that will define the year.
Something that challenges you to get out of your comfort zone.
So far outside of your comfort zone that you aren’t sure that you can complete it, at least not where you currently are with your habits, priorities, fitness, etc.
Something that seems too big when you first think about it.
Something you will have to prepare for to complete.
A very important piece to understand is that this is all relative to you as an individual.
For example if you run multiple days a week, a misogi would be to complete a ultra-marathon. If you don’t run at all, maybe your misogi is a half marathon or 10k.
It doesn’t have to be physical, but it should come with difficulty to achieve. It should involve struggle and enough struggle that you have to push through the point where you question your ability to continue.
I created the sheet attached as a quick way to help generate ideas on how to select your misogi.
Use it to brainstorm and come up with the one big thing that is right for you.
Pick a date and put it on the calendar. Then defend that space on the calendar like your life depends on it.
Tell people about what you are going to do. Don’t keep it to yourself. We need that little bit of accountability. Your network wants to help, they want to cheer you on. They cant help you win if they don’t know what game you are playing.
Plenty of time left on the clock this year. Get after it. Enjoy the process.
